Eggnog is a classic holiday drink! Who doesn’t love a nice cold drink of creamy eggnog sprinkled with cinnamon! However, most of the time eggnog is loaded with refined sugar. And in a season where refined sugar is the star of the show, why not look for healthier alternatives. This eggnog is sweetened with maple syrup for a naturally sweetened delicious creamy festive drink!

Ingredients For Your Refined Sugar Free Eggnog
This eggnog only takes 7 simple ingredients that you probably already have in your fridge and pantry.
- Egg Yolks
- Milk
- Cream
- Maple Syrup
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Vanilla
Before we get into the recipe, let’s go over a few notes on the ingredients! It is vital to use just egg yolks for the recipe. The egg yolks will thicken the recipe and make the drink extra creamy!
I love using whole milk for this recipe. I use our raw milk and raw cream. Although this recipe is heated, so the benefits of the raw milk do not remain, I love the flavor of the raw milk. But with that said, feel free to use whatever milk you prefer. Even low fat milks are an option. And if you prefer to avoid extra fat in the recipe, feel free to omit the cream. The drink simply won’t be quite as thick.
Opt for a pure maple syrup for the healthiest option. Choose high quality ground cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as pure vanilla extract, for optimal flavor!

Preparing Your Eggnog For Cooking
To prepare this delicious eggnog refined sugar free eggnog for cooking, you’ll simply need to add all the ingredients to a large stock pot. Begin by separating the eggs. Simply crack an egg and place the yolk in your hand. Then gently transfer back and forth from one hand to another until there are no whites left around the yolk. Add the yolk to the stock pot. Repeat with the rest of the eggs.

Then add all the rest of your ingredients. Now, you’ll need to thoroughly stir the mixture with a whisk. Whisk for several minutes to make sure the ingredients are well incorporated. Ideally, you’ll have no more visible yolk pieces in the mixture. Now it’s ready to transfer to the stove.

Cooking Your Refined Sugar Free Eggnog
Now that you have all the ingredients mixed for your eggnog, it’s time to cook it. Begin the process with low heat, and slowly work up to medium. You don’t want to scorch the milk in the process. Now that you’ve heated the milk, you’ll just need to make sure it gets hot enough. If you have a thermometer, this is the most accurate way to test the temperature. You’ll want to heat the milk to around 160 degrees. If you don’t have a thermometer, you can still make this recipe. Look for small bubbles forming all the way around the edge of the pot. In addition, you can test the temperature by stirring with a metal spoon and making sure the liquid coats the back when removes. If both of these tests align, you’ll know your eggnog is finished and you can cool it in the refrigerator.

Chilling And Serving Your Eggnog
Now that the eggnog is cooked, all that’s left is the chilling process. Place your eggnog in the refrigerator to completely cool it. After it has cooled completely, remove it from the fridge and serve in your favorite festive glass. I love to top my eggnog with an additional dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish!
